Vintage Sonni GDR Doll — East German Collectible
A beautiful vintage SONNI doll from the former German Democratic Republic (GDR / DDR), made in Sonneberg, East Germany.
At approximately 40 cm / 15.75 inches tall, she is a lovely example of the classic East German dolls produced by the SONNI toy industry during the Soviet-era period.
She has a particularly charming vintage appearance, with large brown eyes, rosy cheeks, a sweet expression and thick auburn hair. Her sleep eyes open and close properly when the doll is moved from standing to lying down.
The doll is dressed in a charming pink vintage outfit with a teddy bear embroidery on the front, matching the nostalgic style of children's clothing from the period.

About SONNI
SONNI was one of the important East German toy manufacturers based in Sonneberg, Thuringia. The company produced dolls and other toys and was part of the large state-owned East German toy industry.
Historical SONNI catalogues from the 1970s document a wide range of doll models produced by the company, and surviving examples are now collected as vintage DDR toys and East German memorabilia.
SONNI dolls are especially recognizable for their expressive faces, molded vinyl features, sleeping eyes and distinctive East German vintage styling.

The doll is in very good vintage condition overall, especially considering her age.
She has been preserved with her vintage clothing and has a lovely clean appearance. Her hair is full and thick, with the characteristic long auburn style visible in the photographs.
The sleeping eye mechanism works — the eyes open and close when the doll is positioned appropriately.
