Vintage Soviet wooden molding plane / profile woodworking tool, dating approximately from the 1950s–1980s.

This is a traditional wooden hand plane made for shaping and profiling wood, rather than ordinary flat surface planing. Its compact wooden body, shaped sole, fitted iron and distinctive front hand grip are characteristic of specialized traditional woodworking planes.

The exact subtype is difficult to confirm without the original workshop documentation. The tool can be described as a molding/profile plane, with its construction also resembling Soviet versions of specialized planes used for cutting rebates, grooves and shaped profiles.

These types of hand tools were used by carpenters and cabinetmakers for detailed woodworking, including the preparation of window and door components, panel work, decorative profiles, moldings and joinery.

The blade has a shaped working profile corresponding to the sole of the plane, allowing the craftsman to create a particular form in the wood rather than simply flattening a surface.

The “СР” marking on the blade is an interesting original detail. I have not been able to confirm the exact manufacturer from this marking alone, so it is presented as an original blade maker's / production mark rather than assigning it to a specific factory without sufficient evidence.

Vintage Condition

The plane shows authentic signs of age and workshop use, including scratches, dents, surface wear, darkened areas and marks in the wood.

The wooden body has developed a warm aged patina from decades of handling. The metal blade also shows signs of age and previous use.

This is an old working tool, not a newly restored reproduction.

The plane may be suitable for a collector of traditional woodworking tools, a woodworker interested in historical hand tools, restoration projects, workshop display or rustic industrial décor.
