A distinctive vintage Soviet-era woodworking tool known among traditional carpenters as a kalivka (also spelled kalevka) — a specialized wooden molding plane designed for shaping decorative profiles in wood.

Unlike an ordinary hand plane used primarily to flatten and smooth boards, a molding plane like this was made to create shaped and decorative edges and profiles. Traditional craftsmen used these specialized planes for producing architectural and furniture details such as moldings, cornices, decorative trim, picture and mirror frames, window elements, door panels and other profiled wooden surfaces.

About the Tool

Vintage Condition
The plane is in authentic vintage, as-found condition with visible signs of age and previous workshop use.
The wooden body has scratches, marks, dents, areas of discoloration and natural wear accumulated over years of use. The wood has developed an attractive aged patina.
There is also a visible old finish, varnish residue or surface mark on the upper part of the wooden body.
The metal parts show natural signs of age and use as well.

I have intentionally kept the tool in its vintage condition rather than refinishing it, so its original character and workshop history remain visible.
